Overview

Free Spirit Media (FSM) has developed an innovative education and youth development model that uses youth media creation as the context for holistic youth development. This model builds bridges between academics, arts, civic engagement, and the media industry.

Through hands-on and project-based video productions, FSM helps young people develop their creative voice while actively learning about and addressing community issues. Using the production process as a context, students develop critical academic, 21st Century, and digital learning skills, which are deeply relevant to our technology — and information-driven world. FSM develops young people who are informed and engaged civically, connected to and prepared for higher education and careers, able to build strong relationships and networks for support beyond our programs, and are empowered with a strong sense of self.

FSM has been an innovative and forward-thinking leader in youth media and journalism education since 2000 and is inspiring students to pursue relevant opportunities in higher education and career development. Through FSM programs, students to gain advanced media production skills, media industry experience and contacts and a clear pathway into higher education and/or career advancement.
