CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM BEAT REPORTER/EDITOR, Real Chi Youth

Free Spirit Media’s Real Chi Youth civic journalism program is currently looking to find a beat reporter/editor to collaborate in our pilot newsroom. This role would entail serving as an editor to our apprentice reporters, while covering criminal justice and policing reform, with a focus on generating original reporting on the new restorative justice court in North Lawndale. This is an excellent opportunity for a young journalist looking to find a pathway into Chicago’s competitive media market.


DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR, Free Spirit Media

The Development Director will lead Free Spirit Media’s Development & Communications department, which works to promote Free Spirit Media and its youth artists; garner financial support for the organization through philanthropic efforts that complement the organization's earned revenue models; and build an audience for youth media and organizational projects. The successful candidate will be an experienced development professional, project manager, and relationship builder with the ability to multi-task and adhere to internal and external deadlines. This position requires a team player and self starter, who can maintain focus, perspective, calm, and attention to detail in a fast-paced, creative, and youth-focused environment.


SUMMER WORKFORCE COORDINATOR, Industry Pathways

The Summer Workforce Coordinator holds a part-time, seasonal role on the Industry Pathways program team, Free Spirit Media’s creative workforce development initiative that provides underrepresented emerging media-makers ages 18-25 with professional development, production and skills training, mentorship and work-placed opportunities. This dynamic individual will lead the professional development, career and internship support services and individual engagement for participants in FSM’s summer workforce programs.
