Maya J. Horton
Criminal Justice Reporter, The Real Chi
Maya is a journalist, videographer, and aspiring author. After graduating from Harold Washington College, she began her career as a freelance Content Writer and Journalist working for Q4 radio and contributing to South Side Weekly newspaper. Her passion for storytelling and social activism is what drew her to the Real Chi. As a Criminal Justice Reform Beat Reporter, she continues to learn more and more about the complexities of the Chicago political and criminal justice system and works at creating relationships with the community she covers.
She is a Graduate of the 2019 Industry Pathways Cohort, an intensive training program for emerging Chicago-based film and media makers. Throughout her time in the program, she connected with several of her peers and continues to develop her own narrative film projects while Co Directing her own documentary film, “My Mother is An Artist.”
