Program Coordinator, FSM News South
Rachel Jones joined the Free Spirit Media team in January 2015. After studying Film and African American Studies at Northwestern University, Rachel was eager for opportunities to unite media production and social justice. This passion brought her around the world, from producing short films with local creators in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to teaching digital storytelling to middle school students in Hyderabad, India.
Through working with communities to develop media relevant to their lives, she saw the value in centering stakeholders in telling their own stories. As Program Coordinator for FSM News South, Rachel is grateful for the opportunity to support youth voice in a city where young people are so often spoken for and spoken about. Outside FSM, she works to produce media that amplifies stories that don't always receive a spotlight, including music videos and web series.
Inspired by the infamous Dr. Phil show of a defiant 13 year old girl, FSM South’s parody, “Catch Me Outside” takes another look at this renowned episode. Featuring compelling acting from FSM South’s Rochelle Borden, Rachel Jones, and Perrione Reed.
