Students chose to produce this piece about gang violence because for many youth in Chicago, being around violence everyday is a fact of life. They felt passionately compelled to educate their fellow teens about the alternatives to gang life style.
Youth often find that gangs fulfill their desire to become part of a collective identity. This PSA offers alternatives such as staying in school, getting involved in sports or after-school activities, and finding mentors and role models. By suggesting alternatives students are not only identifying the problem, but serving as a resource for a solution.
