Alex Herrera

Director of Programs & Partnerships

Throughout my career, I've been passionate about youth development and using arts education to empower young people in Chicago. I believe storytelling through media is a powerful tool, and I'm excited to collaborate with our talented staff, youth participants, teaching artists, and partners to create programs that foster social justice, belonging, and youth voice.

Before Free Spirit Media, I managed teen programs at the Hyde Park Art Center, overseeing initiatives like the Youth Board of Artists, Artshop, Digital Photography, and Art & Restorative Justice programs. I also championed youth inclusion and facilitated important conversations about equity and advocacy with the Art Center's leadership.

Beyond the Hyde Park Art Center. I've served as a Teen Learning Specialist at the Shedd Aquarium, taught Digital Design and 3D animation in the CPS Advanced Arts Program, and held a position as Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

My artistic background in Art & Tech, with a focus on Film, Video, and New Media Studies, aligns with Free Spirit Media's mission and I'm very excited to develop innovative programs alongside this talented team.
