This Martin Luther King Jr. Day at the Chicago History Museum, children and adults used their day off from school and work to participate in arts and crafts honoring King and the Civil Rights Movement. Each year the museum hosts its MLK Commemorative Day full of activities and performances to inspire and educate the youth and others. The museum’s Director of Education, Nancy Villafranca-Guzman, says the goal of the exhibit is to teach about the legacy and life of the late activist. Besides crafts, the event featured children’s storytime, musical and theatre performances. Attendees were even able to hear a reenactment of King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech given by award winning storyteller Oba King Williams. Although the all-day event lasted from 10:00 am to 3:00pm, the museum offers guests another opportunity to learn about MLK through its permanent exhibit.
