Five apps to help you de-stress
It has been three weeks into mandatory stay-at-home orders in Illinois, yet there are still days more to come. At this time, it is extremely important to take care of ourselves. TRC editor Carolyn created this list of apps that you may find helpful to reduce your anxiety.
Although the app provides a lot of ways for you to fall into a deeper sleep, such as meditation, stories and music, the thing I love about the app is the “nature sound” section. With nature sounds such as rain, forest, campfire being played, you will easily forget about whatever is stuck in your head. You can even mix and create your own sound(s).
Being creative focuses our minds and distracts us from feelings of stress and anxiety. To create a pottery of your own, you have to spend time shaping it, firing it and decorating it. Every time I look at the collections of pottery that I have made, it feels like that I am exhibiting my art works, which makes me feel accomplished.
If you feel refreshed every time you bump into some little-known subject, this is the app for you. Just as the name suggested, it provides random facts, but you can also choose a category you like, such as food, celebrities and so on.
Remember how your silly face making made your friends and families laugh? You may also be amused by the distorted portraits of yourself. Individuals can either take photos or videos with various filters. I find video recording even more hilarious because you can change the pitches of your voices. Share your funny videos and photos with your friends to cheer them up!
You can always get inspired by speeches given by people from around the world here. I also love the TED-Ed animations. Within five minutes or less, you will tap into something you have never known about before. From there, it is likely that a new door, a new world will be opened.
