CHICAGO - The reopening of Chinatown has not brought as many customers as some business owners in Chinatown expected as Chicago moved into Phase 3 under Mayor Lori Lightfoot's plan June 3rd.

“We are not seeing a big increase in customers compared to the lockdown phase,” Young Kan, manager at Tous Les Jours bakery, said last Sunday.

Kan, like some other business owners, suspected that people shunned the area because they were afraid of the protestors and looters.

Sarah Zhang and her husband drove all the way from Indiana to get a haircut in her favorite salon in Chinatown.

They said they are not worried about the looting because the police and the National Guard are watching the area.

Willie Alcantra, a Chinatown resident, said he missed the bubble teas and the salon. Alcantra added that he hoped the business could fully open in the near future.
