With less government restrictions in place and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently authorizing the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 - 11 years old, this Thanksgiving many West Side groups are giving their Zoom calls a break and safely reuniting with their community in person. Here are 11 West Side events or giveaways striving to bring neighbors together again for the turkey themed holiday.
The Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway
Presented by: Alderman Scott and The M.W. Celestial Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M.

Description: Ald. Michael Scott (24th Ward) along with Mason Lodge and The Will Group will host the 6th annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway this year. Masks are required and one turkey will be given away per household. Service is first come first served.
North Lawndale Employment Network’s Annual Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway

Date/Time: Saturday, Nov. 20 starting at 10 a.m. and concluding at 2 p.m.
Location: 111 S. Homan Ave., Chicago, IL 60624
Description: North Lawndale Employment Network (NLEN), with the support of Amy Gudgeon and BMO Harris Bank, will host their 9th Annual Thanksgiving Meal Giveaway at their new campus located at 111 S. Homan Ave. NLEN will also give away Thanksgiving side dishes along with $20 gift cards to families to complete a Thanksgiving protein of their choice. Two hundred meals (1 per household) will be distributed by staff members while supplies last.
Firehouse Thanksgiving meal giveaway

Description: The Firehouse Community Arts (FCA) Center serves as a safe haven for community youth to engage in artistic projects. FCA will be distributing free prepared Thanksgiving meals. Those interested in meals should call or text The Firehouse Community Arts center with their name, phone number, and family size.
Realty of Chicago 9th Annual Turkey Giveaway

Description: Realty of Chicago is partnering with many sponsors for their 9th annual Turkey giveaway in the Pilsen area. There will also be a $200 grocery gift card raffle.
Thanksgiving Turkey Give Away
Presented by: New Life Center
Date/Time: Tuesday, Nov. 23 starting at 7 a.m. for walk-up visitors and concluding at 1 p.m. Visitors who are drivers may arrive at the giveaway beginning at 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Description: New Life Little Village is a community church striving to create a family through fruitful followers of God. They will be collaborating with the Greater Chicago Food Depository to distribute turkeys to community members.
