His & Hers Take ep.1: Mental Health in Sports

 
 
 

Hello everyone and welcome to the first episode of his/hers take sports podcast. Where three journalists from The Real Chi, Free Spirit Media’s learning newsroom program, discuss everything sports. In the first episode, co-hosts Elizabeth Aburto, Nieya Smith, and Justin Cole discuss mental health in sports including how the pressure to perform can impact the mental health of youth, college, and professional athletes.

This episode will feature a combination of interviews that the three co-hosts have conducted independently. The guests are Andrew Joy, LCPC Founder of TMD Sports psychology training & counseling services. Jalen Boyd, senior college athlete who plays basketball at North Park University, and Ajani Olufemi a Chicago Park District counselor and Coach at Sherman Park. 

Get to know a little bit more about the co-hosts, Elizabeth Aburto, Nieya Smith, and Justin Cole: 

Nieya Smith is currently a senior at Jacksonville University in Florida. Majoring in film with a minor in communications. She is aspiring to be a writer/director and sports broadcaster.

Elizabeth Aburto is an aspiring sports journalist working with The Real Chi, she hopes to combine both her love of sports and passion in journalism to bring a new twist to the podcast. 

Justin Cole is a journalism major and recent graduate of Harold Washington College. He is an aspiring sports journalist.
