Behind The Scenes with The Real Chi Editor Mariah McBride - Social Elevation Broadcast
When I think about Free Spirit Media’s Social Elevation Broadcast the first word that comes to mind is “growth.” As I was nervously preparing to interview ABC7 Journalist Will Jones for the program, I thought about how we as a people, an organization, a community, and even as individuals have used the events of 2020 to elevate and challenge ourselves to be better. And even how those who are not able to elevate during this difficult time have used this moment to either reflect on previous change they’ve created or commit themselves to doing more in the future.
Ultimately, I decided to not only use this opportunity to challenge myself to grow as a journalist, but to communicate to the audience how Will has elevated throughout his career and even during the pandemic. Listening to Will share his experiences as a journalist, hearing the stories of others program participants, community members, media makers and even watching––to my surprise–– one of my very first videos I completed at The Real Chi air within the Social Elevation Broadcast all reminded me how important it is to acknowledge the journey and – if possible– create change.
