West Side residents of the 24th and 28th wards gathered to address aldermanic candidates at a forum held at Jensen Scholastic Academy on Feb. 12. Approximately 50 residents filled the seats of the West Side school’s gymnasium—where potential seat holders responded to questions ranging from their stance on red light cameras, distribution of TIF funding and prevention of further gentrification.

Candidates and residents wanted standing aldermen Michael Scott (24th) and Jason Irving (28th) to answer “tough questions” pertaining to their wards, that span across West Loop, East and West Garfield Park and North Lawndale, but were left disappointed as neither aldermanic incumbent showed to the assembly.

Ward 24 candidates Tracy “Treasure” Johnson and Toriano Sanzone attended, along with 28th ward candidates Justina Winfrey, Miguel Bautista, and Beverly Miles.
