Saturday April 13th--SAIC Homan Square will be hosting Saturday Cyphers:The Infinite Cypher with musing Hip Hop duo Mother Nature made up of Klevah Knox (Shasta Mathews) and T.R.U.T.H (Tierney Reed). The event will kick-off the spring edition of SAIC’s Homan Square Saturday Cyphers, a program founded by Dr. Ife Williams of SAIC as an initiative to encourage community and kinship through hip-hop.

“My idea around Saturday Cyphers was to integrate some of the core elements and values of hip-hop-- where we come from, the history, the language and the idea of a cypher--with a specific centering of community facilitators and artists that focus on heritage history community work joy or wellness.” said Dr.Williams.

This weekend the Infinite Cypher edition will feature hosts, philanthropist and rap duo Mother Nature, a hip-hop group that has garnered national attention with their contemplative, and impactful lyrics and powerful live performance.

T.R.U.T.H. and Klevah members and founders of Mother Nature began their budding music careers and philanthropic pursuits during their time studying at University of Illinois Champaign, and have made their mark on Chicago’s renowned music scene ever since.

“Chicago was the next big city...since we’ve been here the whole thing we’ve been working on is exposure, connecting with people, you know, really creating community, and just reaching people on a real life experience level.” said T.R.U.T.H.

Mother Nature has presented teachings and workshops throughout, a series which they have titled “MIS Education,” focused on understanding and combating political and social issues.

“It's just an exchange of energy, exchange of knowledge. Whether we are like teaching out freestyle, doing something more tangible at the end of the day, like what you learn in beyond that goes deeper, and it's something that can actually help you in life.” said T.R.U.T.H. about sharing with the attendees a place to express their feelings and frustrations openly through the vessel of emceeing, deejaying, dance, and graffiti.

“You know, we try to give everything that we know from, you know, everything we do….We talked about that, you know, the DIY process is entrepreneurship, you know, recording, producing, writing, building a team but for the most part, the focus is going to be freeing yourself.” says Klevah.

Saturday Cyphers: The Infinite Cypher event will be this Saturday April 11, 2019 at The SAIC Homan Square location, 906 S. Homan Ave., from 3pm-5:30pm.
