William Guerrero, AKA “The kid from Pilsen,” a young volunteer and documenter, founded The Family for Change (TF4C), a youth led non profit organization which launched earlier this year.

“Our goal is to influence young people in our communities to step up and be the Guerrero, when asked what his organization's mission was.

The roots for the organization are based on Guerrero offering his laptop to his younger sister to attend school after her microphone stopped working. This small favor led to her receiving better grades and led Guerrero to his first community project, Laptops For Change.

“I thought there were many other students in that position. We want to provide students with a working, sustainable laptop to ensure they have a quality education [that] all students deserve during this time of the pandemic. So, I started to raise money for laptops using my Polaroid artwork and through donations and so far we have donated seven laptops (Acer Aspire and Asus) and we have more to go!” said Guerrero.

Laptops For Change is still an ongoing campaign for TF4C Monetary donations can be placed via Venmo @thefamilyforchange. Individuals interested in donating gently used laptops should email TF4C at thefamilyforchange@gmail.com for more information.

TF4C’s current community project, Artist For Change, is offering a free space for small artists/photographers to showcase their work at their headquarters located on 1834 S Ashland Ave. in an effort to benefit community artists/photographers. Participants can expect their work to be showcased at TF4C’s office window (as an effort to maintain social distancing) at “Eighteenth Ladies and Gents” in 1834 S. Ashland Ave. If window space were to run out, the showcase will then continue virtually on TF4C’s Instagram page @thefamilyforchange.

“Either with monetary help or exposure wise so that others can know about the artist/photographer. We also hope to motivate young artists to come forth with their amazing talents and to let us showcase it!”

Artists/photographers in the Little Village and Pilsen area who are interested in this opportunity can set up an appointment by emailing TF4C at thefamilyforchange@gmail.com or Dm their Instagram @thefamilyforchange.
